Michel SERANNE obtained his PhD in 1988 at Montpellier University (France), studying tectonics and sedimentology relationships during the formation of extensional sedimentary basins in Norway. In 1990, he joined the CNRS as a Research Scientist, still at Montpellier. In the meantime, he has had various research experiences in PetroPeru oil company (Lima), at Imperial College (London), at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (New-York). He led the « Sedimentary Basins » research team at the University of Montpellier, where he developed a strong interest in the controls of internal and external forcings on the formation of energy and ore resources in sedimentary basins. Lately he focused on the accumulation and preservation processes of the Moroccan phosphorites.
